Mesh Adaptation-Repair

In computations of fluid flow with structural interactions (FSI) or fluid flow with moving boundaries, it is necessary to update the mesh topology when the mesh is no longer valid due to node movement. This is accomplished in ADINA using a mesh adaptation-repair procedure based on the Delaunay meshing methodology. This procedure performs the following tasks:

  • repair invalid elements by local remeshing,
  • coarsen by local remeshing with appropriate resizing,
  • refine using standard insertion, and
  • optimize and smooth.
This feature is available for both 2D and 3D analyses.


  • This procedure does not modify the model's boundary.
  • It does not modify the total number of nodes.
  • It uses an error indicator to help determining where to coarsen and/or refine.
