Two-stage Forming of a Component

We feature (courtesy of John Deere) a 3D analysis of a forming process using ADINA in this example. The component being formed is a support idler at the front of a tracked tractor. As the component is symmetrical, only half of it is modeled. The forming process is carried out in two stages: the center part is formed in the first stage, and the edges are shaped in the second. The objective of this analysis was to determine the residual stresses resulting from forming, in order to assess the potential locations for crack initiation.
